One of the most significant criteria if an additive manufacturing or a joining strategy is considered successful, are the properties that can be achieved. The understanding of the correlation between materials, processes and final properties allows us achieving significant advances in materials and process development but also in the improvement of existing and invention of new joining and additive manufacturing processes. Within our core research topic, we connect properties with microstructures, processes and process parameters. This allows us to determine structure-process-property relationships and finally determine ideal joining or additive manufacturing strategies for numerous materials or applications. Advanced materials modelling and simulation allows deriving trends and focusing experimental investigations to areas of interest.
