Solarcafe

The Solarcafe serves as a demonstration facility für solar technology. It works with solar energy and propane gas as auxiliary energy on overcast days. The solar collector absorbs enough energy on sunny days to boil up to three liters of water in half an hour, which is used for making coffee, tea or soups.

In bad weather, a collapsible container kitchen is used as a sink for environmentally friendly washing up. On days without significant sunlight, temperatures of 50 to 60°C can be reached in a very short time. The coffee water is then brought to the boil with propane gas. The advantage is that less conventional energy is needed to heat the water, since solar energy has already made a significant contribution to heating the coffee water. On the "roof" of the mobile teaching kitchen is an 85 W solar power system. In the refrigerator - without additional energy - fruit, cakes and drinks are kept cool.

The Solarcafe - which was thankfully financed by the Kreissparkasse Lichtenfels - has become a permanent fixture at the Lichtenfels District Environmental Station in Weismain, where it is used for information and training, including for school classes. At events of cities and municipalities, schools, kindergartens, and other öffentlichen institutions, the Solarcafe can be borrowed.
