AVA Abfallverwertung Augsburg KU or AVA KU is a young, innovative company that operates one of the most modern waste recycling plants in Europe. With the creation of a waste disposal park, a model waste management concept was realized in the Augsburg region fourteen years ago - the "Augsburg Model". A waste-to-energy plant with integrated hospital waste incineration and slag processing and a composting plant complement each other on 235,000 square meters. This makes AVA the waste recycling specialist and central disposal partner for the Augsburg region. AVA's disposal area: The primary task of AVA is to ensure the long-term disposal of waste for over 600,000 people in the city of Augsburg and the districts of Augsburg and Aichach-Friedberg. The majority of the total waste volume comes from these three regions. Since 1995, neighboring districts have also been supplying residual waste. Thus, the disposal area of the AVA expanded to more than one million citizens. Recycling of waste: Annually, about 220,000 tons of residual waste come to the AVA, where they are thermally treated in the three furnace lines of the AHKW. A multi-stage flue gas cleaning system ensures exemplary emission values. The energy released during incineration is used to generate steam. This in turn is used to generate electricity and then district heating. Augsburg's municipal utilities are customers for these products. High-quality compost is produced in just ten weeks in the AVA's composting plant from the biowaste in the brown garbage can, garden waste and other organically degradable waste, yielding a total volume of around 60,000 metric tons per year. With its approximately 200 employees - including 12 trainees - AVA Abfallverwertung Augsburg KU or AVA KU is considered an innovative company that has made a good name for itself as an exemplary waste disposal company far beyond the region!
