In November 2024, we welcome Christopher Schmal, Head of Functional Development (FunE) at HP-T Hoeglmeier Polymer-Tech GmbH & Co. KG, to our Innovation Coffee. In his exciting presentation, he will address the highly topical subject of visible and invisible trends in plastics recycling, with a special focus on engineering plastics from the field of post-industrial recycling (PIR).
Christopher Schmal will shed light on the cycle of post-industrial recycling, from the generation of waste to the various possible recycling paths. He shows the potential along the value chain and how clever approaches can achieve greater efficiency.
The advantages and obstacles of using 100% PIR and PCR (post-consumer recycling) as a raw material for new products are examined in detail. What challenges are there on the way to a closed loop and what is slowing down rapid progress?
Another focus is on EU vehicle regulations and the approaches needed to comply with these regulations in the future. Schmal outlines the ideal cycle for a WIN³ situation - a model in which recyclers, designers, OEMs and purchasers benefit equally from sustainable recycling. The roles and contributions that these players can make are discussed in detail.
His presentation aims to demonstrate practicable and replicable solutions that pave the way to a circular recycling economy. The motto is: "Working together for a sustainable circular economy". Because: There is no waste - only raw materials for new products.
We look forward to an informative exchange and innovative food for thought! Join us and help shape the future of plastics recycling!
