Advanced and sustainable means of transportation with new materials

The use of innovative materials can make vehicles lighter, stronger and more resistant. It is therefore essential for the automotive and aviation industries to use new materials to improve the performance, efficiency and safety of transportation vehicles and thus drive forward their development in a future-oriented manner. In addition, a combination of different, advanced materials enables specific requirements and challenges, such as lightweight construction, material performance, resource efficiency and recyclability or functional integration in both industries to be better met.

We are bringing the two worlds - automotive industry and aviation - together in this specialist forum in the context of new, innovative materials.

A sustainable future through innovation: pressurized hydrogen tanks for fuel cell vehicles - challenges and solutions
Niclas Richter

More info

The presentation ""Sustainable Future through Innovation: Hydrogen Pressure Tanks for Fuel Cell Vehicles - Challenges and Solutions"" highlights the key role of hydrogen as an energy carrier in the context of the mobility transition and addresses the central challenges in the development and implementation of hydrogen pressure storage systems for fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs).

At the heart of the presentation is the sustainability of this technology, which will be explored in depth through three main topics: the recycling of continuous carbon fibres, the use of recycled material for liners and the optimization of CFRP reinforcement.

It will be shown how innovative processes could enable the recycling of continuous carbon fibers, which not only lowers material costs but also reduces the environmental impact of producing new fibers.

Furthermore, the importance of recycled material for liners for the longevity and environmental sustainability of the pressure tanks will be discussed. The optimization of the CFRP reinforcement can be another decisive factor for the efficiency of the tanks.

The presentation will conclude with a discussion on the ecological and economic benefits resulting from the integration of these sustainable approaches.
