A Korean company specializing in the manufacture of display devices and energy components is to develop a metal bipolar plate for SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell). This company is seeking a partner with a metallic surface coating technology that guarantees excellent oxidation resistance and high electrical conductivity as part of a research collaboration for EUREKA and EUROSTARS.
Details:
The SOFC is an environmentally friendly power generation device that is considered to have great technical and economic value, with excellent performance in reducing particulate matter and carbon dioxide. The energy conversion efficiency of the SOFC system is at least 40% to over 60%.
The development of a bipolar plate, which acts as a mechanical support (electrical connection of each unit cell, consisting of electrolyte and electrode, insulation of the supplied fuel and air), is absolutely necessary to produce a large capacity stack used in a SOFC system. Metal is a suitable material for the bipolar plate due to its low price, mechanical strength, high electrical conductivity, high gas barrier properties and ease of fabrication. The biggest advantage of the metal bipolar plate is that it can be easily formed and forged, allowing its thickness to be adjusted to 1 mm or less.
A Korean display and power component manufacturer is therefore to develop an SOFC bipolar plate based on its manufacturing know-how. The ultimate goal is to develop a fuel cell metal processing equipment and coating device.
Wanted Partners/Notes:
This company intends to apply to the Eureka or Eurostars3 program in research collaboration with European partners who have metal coating technology (especially chrome plating). The deadline for expressions of interest is June 30, 2021, as the deadline for the call is expected to be August 31, 2021.
