Offer - Greece - Improved energy management for building microgrids

Integrated system on IoT and predictive optimization technologies

An integrated system based on IoT and predictive optimization technologies offers improved energy management in the microgrid of buildings.

Details: This is achieved through proper scheduling of home appliances (programmable and controllable) and proper use of batteries and energy generated by renewable energy sources (RES) in the home. In particular, an optimal balance between energy supply and demand is achieved by taking into account the potential energy price fluctuations as well as the preferences of the inhabitants of the house for the use of the appliances. Thus, the system has two objectives: 1) reducing the electricity bill for the home occupants and 2) providing useful information for short-term prediction of home energy consumption for the demand response aggregator and the utility. The system provides optimal scheduling of programmable and controllable devices, while achieving optimal use of renewable and battery energy in the home by controlling the optimal flow of energy in real time with three options: 1) self-consumption in the building, 2) intermediate storage in batteries, or 3) injection into the grid. The system requires no additional hardware and is based only on information provided by the building's smart meter readings, as well as data on the current price of electricity and current weather conditions and forecasts. Specifically, it is an integrated energy management software developed using the genetic algorithm technique and in conjunction with several other optimization and prediction methods. It takes into account the preferences of the occupants of the house, taking into account the usage of the appliances. By influencing a large number of control variables and external information, it can create an optimal schedule for home appliances and achieve optimal use of renewable energy and batteries in the home.

Wanted Partners/Notes: Two different types of partners and partnerships are sought. On the  one hand, Energy Demand Response (DR) aggregators and utilities who want to integrate this system into their applications. On the other,  manufacturers of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and smart appliances, and developers of IoT, monitoring and energy management software to integrate this technology into their products. https://www.technologiepartner.de/de/technologiedatenbank/details?ref=TOJP20210623001
