"Mobility - Innovative drive technologies for mobile applications" funding line

The Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi) intends to fund research, development and innovation projects (R&D&I) in the field of mobility with a focus on "Innovative drive technologies for mobile applications" on the basis of the guidelines for the "Bavarian Joint Research Program (BayVFP)".

The funding is aimed at industry-led pre-competitive collaborative projects in accordance with No. 2 of the guidelines for the "Bavarian Collaborative Research Program (BayVFP)", which focus on innovative developments in the field of "Innovative drive technologies for mobile applications".

The funding is aimed at industry-led collaborative projects for the research and development of new or improved technologies and/or processes for innovative products. The collaborative projects are to be set up as multi-year projects with several partners, covering as many parts of a value chain and/or technology chain as possible. As a rule, the projects are designed to run for three years, although other durations are also possible.

Close cooperation between companies, possibly with the involvement of university and non-university research institutions, and the exploitation of project results are of particular importance.

Information on the implementation of the program:

What can be supported?

The funding is intended to support companies in research and development projects in the field of innovative drive technologies for mobile applications and to accelerate the use of these pioneering technologies in ground, water and air transportation.

The funding covers the following topics and issues in particular:

  • Engine technology, in particular hydrogen and electric engines
  • Highly efficient transmission technology
  • Energy and thermal management
  • Hybrid technology (fuel cells)
  • Tank and storage technologies, in particular battery technology (solid-state battery)
  • Systems for the improved use of the above-mentioned drive technologies.

How is funding provided?

Funding is provided as partial funding in the form of grants as part of project funding.

  • Personnel costs
  • Other operating expenses
  • Expenditure for contract research
  • Costs for instruments and equipment
  • Travel expenses (for institutes)

The funding topics presented are prioritized in addition to the corresponding funding programs at federal and EU level.

The awarding authority reserves the right to refer projects on topics that are prioritized through their own topic-specific calls within the "Mobility" funding line to the respective topic-specific calls.

  • Applicants or project participants must provide evidence that they are using an appropriate amount of their own or external funds to finance the project, which are not financed by other public funding or reduced interest rates.
  • In the case of joint projects between companies and universities or research institutions, the majority of the eligible expenditure of the overall project should be attributable to the companies.
  • Applicants must have sufficient creditworthiness to carry out the project and provide evidence of this if necessary.

Who can submit an application?

Eligible to apply are

  • Companies with a registered office or branch in the Free State of Bavaria
  • Non-university research institutions as well as universities and higher education institutions in Bavaria
  • Other applicants based or established in the Free State of Bavaria that have the technical qualifications and sufficient capacity to successfully complete the tasks described in the project
