The German Biomass Research Center has published online an interactive map with about 150 organizations of the funding program "Energetic Biomass Utilization" of the BMWK.

Since 2008, the accompanying research "Energetic Biomass Utilization" networks funded projects of the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWK). Now the German Biomass Research Center (DFBZ) has published about 150 funded organizations in a research map. The funding area covers the energetic use of various biogenic residual and waste materials.

The DBFZ thereby bundles all network participants in the Bioenergy Research Network. In the newly designed, interactive research map, the projects funded under the German government's 7th Energy Research Programme and their project partners can now be found for the first time via a graphical interface. With the new tool, the accompanying research seamlessly integrates into the DBFZ's digitization offensive launched in 2021.

150 participants can be found clearly

The current 40 projects of the 7th Energy Research Program, whose nearly 150 project-participating organizations have already been entered into the database, can be filtered in the newly designed overview by topic area, by city / region and / or institution type. The project team's goal is to also include projects and project participants from previous funding programs in the database during 2022.

The research map is expected to continue to grow. "Our goal is both to network the participants among themselves even better and to give external partners the opportunity to find relevant competencies in the field of bioenergy and bioeconomy at the federal and state level," explained project coordinator Vera Tens. There is enormous potential and knowledge in the funding program, she said. "Therefore, we hope to be able to create an extensive virtual network with the map in perspective," Tens said.

Funding area "Energetic Biomass Utilization"

The high-quality energetic utilization of biomass, especially residual materials for the efficient production of bioenergy, plays an important role in the expansion of renewable energies. Therefore, the BMWK promotes the further development of energetic biomass utilization. The promotion of energetic biomass use was initiated by the Federal Ministry for the Environment in 2008.

Since the start of the funding program, a total of more than 700 project participants have already been successfully networked. Since 2016, the program has been part of the BMWK's research networks as the Bioenergy Research Network. In September 2018, the funding area "Energetic use of biogenic residual and waste materials" became part of the 7th energy research program "Innovations for the energy transition". The DFBZ works as a network node of the individual projects.
