Cement manufacturer Holcim is partnering with German start-up Magment to develop a road surface through which e-cars can be charged while driving or parked.
As the group, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, announced, it has entered into a strategic partnership with Magment to develop magnetizable concrete for road surfaces. However, the focus is not only on inductive charging on public roads, but also on charging forklifts and robots in industrial properties.
In July 2020, Mauricio Esguerra, co-founder and CEO of Magment, cited high efficiency as a key prerequisite for the success of the technology in the portal Munich Startup. He said that the company's own concrete technology enables an efficiency of between 90 and 94 percent, which is comparable to that of charging via cables. Magnetization is achieved by adding magnetic particles to the cement, so that standard concrete casting methods can be used.
