Cross-Cluster Bavaria Bioeconomy: Project NextGenPCB

In the cross-cluster project NextGenPCB (Next Generation Printed Circuit Boards), the Bavarian clusters Sensor Technology and New Materials will jointly determine which alternative material systems are suitable for a coming generation of printed circuit boards from a bioeconomy perspective. Here, the example of the printed circuit board will be used to investigate how bio-based materials can be used in the field of electronics and what prerequisites must be created for this.

Printed circuit board bioeconomy
Elektroschrott vermeiden - biologisch abbaubare Materialien für eine neue Generation von Leiterplatten entwickeln.

The bioeconomics describes - from the perspective of material sciences - the move away from petroleum-based materials and their substitution by material concepts based on renewable biological resources. This also makes it necessary to establish new processes. Especially the rapid increase of electronic waste is an enormous challenge for a future sustainable economy in the sense of the bioeconomy. For this reason, this project will use the example of printed circuit boards to investigate what future alternatives might look like. Is it possible to develop materials for printed circuit boards that are biodegradable? Can these have individualized properties? These questions will be investigated by the Sensor Technology Cluster and the New Materials Cluster together with interested representatives from industry and science. Here, impulses for a new generation of printed circuit boards will be developed through joint, collaborative workshop formats. For this purpose, we use the method of trend and technology scouting. The ideas identified by the cross-cluster project serve as a basis for further activities and projects against the backdrop of the bioeconomy and the resulting technological issues in the context of electronics. Further information on the project can be found in a joint press release of the New Materials Cluster and the Sensor Technology Cluster. Are these topics also of interest to you? Or would you like to explore new technological perspectives in the field of printed circuit boards with us and get involved in the project? Then please feel free to contact us.
