Connected Mobility Lab

The Connected Mobility Lab (CML) stands for the development of innovative mobility concepts for intermodal travelers in urban areas, an open mobility platform and the establishment of a network on the topic of connected mobility. The goal of the CML project is to make mobility individual and suitable for the individual, while reducing traffic congestion in the city.

The platform

As the technical basis for this, we have developed the mobility platform for CML in the first project phase. Key guiding principles of the platform are openness and extensibility.  We ensure these through the use of innovative software technologies and an architecture based on micro-services. On the platform, mobility services and data from a wide range of providers and means of transport are flexibly connected. This creates a mobility marketplace that efficiently mediates supply and demand.

Furthermore, we are developing mobility services that help us learn more about the needs of users and, at the same time, the requirements of a platform: In our first project phase, we used two APPs to show how an open platform can greatly simplify the integration of and switching between mobility services. Our second application maps a business trip between company locations, which accompanies the user beyond just the route and also upon arrival: Real-time sensor technology supports reliable routing to the next really free parking space and parking barriers open without contact. Our current application focuses on increasing the efficiency of sharing services through integrated pooling. We are piloting this between BMW locations in Munich. The logical next step is to transfer this concept to other locations such as stadiums, train stations, but also mobility stations. The implementation of mobility solutions that can be experienced today and their testing on customers allow us to develop future services and processes - on-demand mobility and fleet intelligence - with a high level of customer acceptance.

The Living Lab

We are convinced that innovations can only fully develop in an open environment. Central to this is the open exchange between projects and partners. Therefore, we make our Connected Mobility Lab with its components available to our partners in the Living Lab Connected Mobility - our sister project of the TU Munich - among others.
