Several companies want to participate in the construction of a hydrogen infrastructure in the greater Ingolstadt area.

Bayerngas, Bayernets, Bayernoil Raffineriegesellschaft, Energienetze Bayern, Gunvor Raffinerie Ingolstadt, Stadtwerke Ingolstadt Energie and Stadtwerke Ingolstadt Netze have signed a letter of intent for the construction of a hydrogen cluster. Potential users are to include automaker Audi.

Under the project name "HyPipe Bavaria / H2 Cluster Ingolstadt," the consortium plans to establish a hydrogen infrastructure in the greater Ingolstadt area to supply the participating industrial sites and the region. Refineries such as Bayernoil and Gunvor as well as automotive manufacturers such as Audi could use sustainable hydrogen to decarbonize their production processes in the near future, according to a statement from the partners. In addition, further applications in the trade, in the transport as well as in the heat supply of enterprises and private households over the involved network operators are conceivable.

The hydrogen could be referred over the future hydrogen transport network supraregional, in part however also regionally produced and distributed. All interested market participants should be able to use the future infrastructure without discrimination. The aim is to create the conditions for connection to the national and European hydrogen transport infrastructure by 2030 at the latest.

According to the consortium's assessment, the hydrogen infrastructure will represent an essential building block for achieving a climate-neutral energy supply by 2040 for the industrial, transport and building sectors in the Ingolstadt metropolitan area and will enable the establishment of European and international supply chains for climate-neutral hydrogen.
