Bavarian-Czech Smart Regions Network

Bavarian-Czech Smart Regions Network

The Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Munich and the "Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern" have been working on establishing contacts and cooperation between the state administration, universities and research institutes since 2018. Both have decided to initiate this Bavarian-Czech Smart Region Network with the approval of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade as well as the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Aims of the network

The aim of the network is the exchange of information, development and implementation of smart solutions between local administrations, companies, universities and research centers on both sides of the border. The current focus is on promoting cooperation between smart labs, data processing projects and in the healthcare sector, e.g. using the 5G network.

Cross-border network partners

This network includes the technical universities in Deggendorf and Nuremberg as well as the University of West Bohemia and the University of South Bohemia, representatives of the chambers of commerce and local politicians.

The first meeting took place in 2018 in Munich as part of a smart city workshop.
2021 saw the first delegation trip of Bavarian stakeholders to the Czech Republic (Pilsen). Smart solutions from Czech local government and Czech companies were presented.
In summer 2022, the Czech delegation visited the ZD.B in Bavaria.
The second delegation trip to the Czech Republic (Prague) took place successfully in May 2023.

Four project groups of the network

Several online meetings were held in 2020/21 and four working groups were formed in 2021 to ensure that cross-border cooperation resulted in the most concrete projects possible:

  1. Cross-border application of 5G
  2. Digital villages
  3. Bavarian Poligon
  4. Cross-border use of SDDI
