Christian Holler shows why it is necessary to train experts for the energy industry now.
Prof. Dr. Christian Holler succeeds with his co-authors Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch, Prof. Dr. Joachim Gaukel and Florian Lesch in the book "Erneuerbare Energien zum Verstehen und Mitreden" to make a complex topic accessible to a broader public and to open the door for understanding energy consumption, production and conversion. The fact that these topics span the globe and are overarching is also taken up by the advanced master's program "4D - Modern Energy Systems and Mobility" (4D Master's) at Munich University of Applied Sciences, in which Holler teaches the module "Renewable Energies and Energy Demand" in the first semester.
What can future 4D students expect?
In the 4D master's program, you will discuss the topic of energy consumption and production with engineers and natural scientists. Christian Holler: "The students should get a good overview of the topic of energy, both energy production and consumption: where does our energy come from and where does it go? And what will it be like in the future? A sense of scale, possibilities and impossibilities is essential to this discussion, which of course includes an overview of the relevant figures and technologies."
Why is it so important to talk about energy now?
Energy is the central theme of our modern lifestyle, even if we often don't actively perceive it that way. Without energy, there is practically nothing left that we take for granted in our environment: Housing, mobility, digitization, products and services. However, energy is also one of the biggest drivers of climate change. So we need to talk about this issue in order to develop solutions for all these areas.
In your book, you show how the transformation of the energy industry can succeed. Where will the challenges lie for specialists and managers in the energy industry?
The transformation to a sustainable energy supply - and in such a short time - is one of the greatest challenges in many generations. It will affect almost every aspect of our lives. That's why shaping this process is a major task, one in which many things can go wrong. To do this, we need experts in a wide variety of fields, but especially engineers who will develop this technology and introduce it on a large scale. So these have to be people who understand their subject and can take others with them.
Information about the 4D Master's and the book
The Master's "4D - Modern Energy Systems and Mobility" is aimed at engineers and natural scientists who have an appetite for future topics, are interested in the sustainable development of modern energy systems and would like to develop themselves and their company in these areas. The interdisciplinary orientation of the program supports them in sharpening and expanding their personal profile in order to take on leadership roles and drive green, innovative development of companies. Go to the 4D Master website here.
The book "Renewable Energies to Understand and Talk About" is an interdisciplinary project of the authors with the design faculty of HM and published by C. Bertelsmann Verlag. For more information about the book, see the News about the book.
