Review IAA Mobility 2023
The numerous visitors to the joint stand of Bayern Innovativ and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs at the last IAA Mobility.
On a stand area of more than 400 m², 19 companies and partner organizations presented the diversity of mobility and provided information at theme islands about their products, innovations and services in the fields of hydrogen, electromobility, transformation as well as networked mobility. With the Think Hub Bavaria, a contact point was also created to network with the various subsidiaries and partners of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs. In this way, the Free State of Bavaria supports companies, municipalities and institutions in bringing forth innovations and improving their own competitiveness and future viability.
They all pursued the common goal of making mobility a tangible experience and thus contributing to the mobility of the future.
Read our experts' feedback on the IAA Mobility here:
The IAA Mobility was an ideal platform to meet many well-known as well as new interesting players - the concept with the division of Summit and Open Space enabled a target group-oriented approach. However, there is still a lot to be done to be perceived as a "mobility trade fair"... At our joint stand, this has already been achieved: We think of mobility holistically, from vehicle technology to infrastructure to connected mobility and the entire mobility ecosystem!
I was also particularly excited by the great exhibits to touch and try out on micromobility, e.g. from Mocci and EVUM, which were presented at our booth - mobility is more than just cars!
.
IAA Munich, the second! The popular festival atmosphere at the Open Space did this new platform good, no more PS show, but the exchange with the society was largely in the foreground and worked. The Summit with the trade fair offered excellent contacts and networking opportunities for the Automotive Cluster. The new "Bavaria booth" was a much praised eye-catcher and a perfect home base for many visits and conversations. It only remains to wish that the structure of the trade fair will be somewhat sharpened - the Cluster Automotive is looking forward to 2025!
A remarkable number of Chinese manufacturers have shown themselves to be innovative and self-confident at this year's IAA Mobility. For us, this means even more to tackle and do our homework. Many companies are already on the right track, some still have upward potential and need to innovate, transform, finance and network. Both the Transformation Pilot and many other projects help Bavarian companies in particular to look ahead optimistically and make themselves fit for the future.
It doesn't always have to be high-tech! Autonomous driving attracts a lot of attention in debates, but the future of mobility also lies beyond technological solutions. It is often a matter of first creating the basis, such as a good cycling infrastructure. Even if the passenger car will always play a major role in rural areas, it is still worth creating alternatives.
Colorful, diverse, future-oriented
The booth concept was convincing all along the line and earned much praise and recognition. The coherent color concept, which defined the various main topics, dominated the entire booth and created a colorful and lively scenario.
The "Maypole" in the middle of the booth, a typical Bavarian symbol, served as the perfect meeting point for discussions, which were arranged in advance, for example. For example, pre-arranged as part of B2B matchmaking.
Visitors as well as exhibitors were particularly fascinated by the floor graphics, which showed in detail what "Bavaria moves". Among other things, the map provided information about the charging infrastructure in Bavaria, transformation networks, H2 model regions or projects for autonomous driving. The "eyecatcher" also proved helpful for participants in the competition, as the graphic was able to provide information on a number of questions.

The visit of Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger as well as the state reception with other representatives of state and local politics on the occasion of the IAA made it clear how important Bavaria as a location is for the realization of groundbreaking technologies and innovations and opens up new perspectives for the entire industry.
International interest
The large number of foreign visitors and delegations showed how much interest Bavaria as a state of innovation has also attracted beyond the state's borders: The mobility experts from Bayern Innovativ and the Ministry of Economic Affairs received guests from Israel, Poland, Canada, Hungary, France, the Netherlands, the USA (Michigan), Ukraine, China, Romania, Austria, Finland, South Korea and Chile, among others. There are already long-standing relationships with some of the countries - at the IAA Mobility it was therefore possible to refresh old contacts and initiate new ones: Concrete cooperation agreements already exist with Michigan as part of a business trip this fall, as well as with China. Activities are also planned with Hungary in the near future.
Interactive formats for an intensive exchange
With the two formats "B2B Matchmaking" and "Meet the Expert", the joint booth facilitated another form of networking that met with a high response. At B2B Matchmaking, the nearly 150 participants from 20 countries were able to book appointments with other participants in advance and attend them at the joint stand during the trade fair.
With the "Meet the Expert" format, the experts from the partner organizations invited participants to daily live sessions that included changing topics and ended with a networking event. Content included data for innovative mobility solutions, design, battery cell production, hydrogen in application, e-drivetrain, future interior, Bavarian automotive industry, and start-up promotion and collaboration. As part of the "Meet the Expert Sessions", the H2 Shuttle Bus could also be tested, a special highlight at the fair.
Attractive supporting program in Open Space
Also outside the Summit, the IAA Mobility featured the IAA Citizens Lab, a platform for open, solution-oriented dialogue on the mobility of the future.
The Connected Mobility team designed and moderated two panel sessions on Vision Zero and new opportunities for rural mobility.
Here's your chance to listen to the two sessions again:
Congratulations
We were particularly pleased about our successful partners and companies that received special attention at the IAA Mobility.
For example, mocci - made to work was presented as the first smart cargo pedelec in the world at our joint stand and presented in more detail in a ZDF feature .

We also thought it was great that three start-ups closely associated with us and supported by us were able to pitch at the Innovations Challenge as part of the Citizens Lab at IAA Mobility:
CityQ, which we have already advised on funding opportunities and were nominated by us. With their covered cargo bike, CityQ offers a weatherproof and space-saving solution for transporting people and goods.
E2Trail, who already received an innovation voucher with our support, enable the transport of heavy and unwieldy objects with an innovative cargo trailer for the bike.
Inyo Mobility, exhibitors on our joint stand at IAA Mobility, developed an automated lightweight vehicle for first/last mile connectivity, especially in rural areas.
The award winner E2Trail can look forward to a start-up package for the next IAA Mobility in 2025. Congratulations to all participants on their innovative products!
A team with heart ?
Of course, every successful event also requires a strong and well-coordinated team - and this team once again showed itself in top form and was once again able to demonstrate its unique team spirit. A big THANK YOU to all colleagues who made the IAA Mobility an unforgettable experience!
