Quarterly Report on Electromobility in Bavaria Q3/2022

11/30/2022

In the third quarter, the share of newly built public fast-charging sites was over 15 percent.

The figures in detail (***cf. assumptions)

Charging INFRASTRUCTURE:

New key figures on charging operations provide even more detailed insights

1) charging locations:

In Q3, a total increase of 380 charging locations with 1088 charging points was recorded.

Even the share of pure fast charging locations (DC) in Bavaria more than tripled compared to the same quarter last year. The share of newly built charging locations with AC & DC charging points was 10.5 percent in the third quarter.

2) Charging transactions:

After already exceeding one million charging transactions for the first time in the last quarter, the trend continues to go up. The number of recorded charging operations has increased by 63 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The average number of charging transactions per charging point also reached a new high of 97 this quarter.

NEW KEY FIGURES ON CHARGING USE AVAILABLE:

3) TOP 5 CHARGING LOCATIONS IN BAVARIA

The top spots for charging operations are occupied by fast charging stations: Thus, the charging location Hepberg, Köschinger Forst on the A9 lands in first place with 6,261 charging processes. Second place goes to Leitschäcker 1a, Illertissen. In third place is Seligweiler 1, Ulm a loading hub.

In addition, charging processes are now specified even more precisely:

  • Ratio AC - DC:
For about 5 normal charging processes (AC) came in Q3/2022 about 1 fast charging process (DC)
  • Average charging time AC or. DC:
The average charging time was 180 minutes for AC charging, while an average of 40 minutes was plugged in for a fast charging.

Electric vehicles:

The share of new registrations (BEV + PHEV) of electric vehicles increased by 9.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year (BEV approx. 20 percent, PHEV - 3 percent). PHEVs thus also recorded a decline in this quarter. One AC charging point currently accounts for 29 vehicles (BEV + PHEV). For DC charging points, the number is currently more than twice as high at 61 vehicles (BEV).

NEW FIGURES AVAILABLE ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW REGISTRATIONS:

The share of new registrations of BEVs in Bavaria was just under 16 percent and 11 percent for PHEVs. The highest share of new registrations of electric vehicles was registered in the administrative districts of Lower Franconia (22 percent), Central Franconia (20 percent) and Lower Bavaria (20 percent).

TOP 5 districts / cities:

Broken down to cities or districts, the district of Rhön-Grabfeld (Lower Franconia) landed in first place with 57 percent BEV new registrations. The Amberg-Sulzbach district (Upper Palatinate) and Neustadt an der Aisch/Bad-Windsheim district (Middle Franconia) followed at some distance with 35 percent and 32 percent, respectively. Close behind were Kreis Bad Kissingen (Lower Franconia) with 31 percent and Kreis Kitzingen (Lower Franconia) with 30 percent.

*** Assumptions:

1) Assumptions for the calculation of CO 2 savings:
For each recorded charge, 14 (for AC) or 20 (for DC charging) charged kWh are estimated. An average consumption of 15 kWh / 100km is then assumed. Based on the calculated mileage, assuming CO 2 emissions of 0.185 kg / km for internal combustion engines and 0.03 kg / km for electric motors, the total CO 2 emissions of the respective drive type are determined. The difference from this results in the CO 2 savings.

2) The vehicle inventories are based on the KBA inventory figures at the beginning of the year and are still offset against a forecast of new registrations.

3) For the quotient of charging operations per charging point, we offset the total number of recorded charging operations against the number of charging points at which we obtain dynamic ("live") data. The ratio of dynamic charging points to the total number of charging points is over 80% for Bavaria.

4) The quarterly report documents the development of public charging infrastructure in Bavaria. The information on the development of these charging options therefore refers to purely publicly accessible charging locations and thus does not take into account charging points of closed user groups (e.g. charging points in private underground garages, on factory premises, etc.). A designation of purely publicly accessible charging infrastructure has not been possible so far for technical reasons, resulting in deviations from previous quarterly reports.
