Germany maintains its position in the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) in 12th place among the "Strong Innovators", but is deteriorating in terms of innovative strength.
According to the report, SMEs have seen declines in the areas of product innovation, collaboration between SMEs and business model innovation since 2017. There is also a need for improvement in the areas of digital skills of the population and lifelong learning. Growth was recorded in the areas of broadband expansion and venture capital.
The European Innovation Scoreboard has been published annually since 2001 and provides a comparison of the research and innovation performance of EU member states, EU neighboring countries and selected third countries (global competitors). In addition to the report published as a PDF, detailed evaluations in a country comparison are possible via the EIS tool.
