RTIT Policy Mapping presented

Presentation of project results at the symposium "Circularity in bio-based materials" in Linz

17.10.2024

Wood K Plus, partner in the New Materials Cluster and project partner in the RTIT project, hosted the symposium "Circularity in bio-based materials" in Linz in mid-October 2024. As work package leader, Dr. Barbara Giehmann from the New Materials Cluster presented the results of the RTIT policy mapping to an international audience.

The discussion showed the need for further adaptation of national strategies to the UN Agenda 2030 and the challenges of high-tech focus vs. traditional industries and cultural identity in the European regions.

The symposium was also always about the classification of R&D activities in larger contexts and the need to implement more circular thinking. Insights were provided into (social) life cycle assessments, safety and sustainability by design, the concepts of "living architecture" and "engineered living materials", the utilization of wood residues, the use of water for sustainable material synthesis and processes as well as bioeconomy concepts in South America.
