The European Commission wants to use the 2024 Work Programme to launch an initiative to streamline and reduce burdensome reporting obligations for companies (especially SMEs) and public authorities. Reducing administrative burdens is crucial if European businesses are to remain competitive in the future.

This initiative now aims to identify reporting obligations in EU legislation that can be removed or streamlined without undermining policy objectives. The aim is to achieve a 25% reduction in the burden of EU reporting obligations.

The call for evidence seeks feedback from EU companies and Member States on:

areas where inefficient reporting obligations are particularly burdensome due to EU legislation
concrete ideas for streamlining, modernizing or optimizing (e.g. removing redundant reporting obligations).e.g. eliminating redundant reporting requirements, adjusting the frequency of reporting, proposing options for digitalization, applying the principle of single reporting)

The consultation is open until 28 November 2023.
