Roadmap "Vision: 2045 - towards climate-neutral production with digitization".
The target is clearly defined: Germany is to be completely climate-neutral by 2045. This means that at this point in time, no more climate-damaging emissions may be emitted in industrial value creation and in energy generation on balance. And even beyond that, rising customer requirements and high energy costs are leading to increasing pressure on manufacturing companies to reduce the carbon footprint of products and production and move toward climate neutrality. To achieve a climate-neutral industry, science, industry and politics place great expectations on the possibilities of digitalization. However, it is unclear how exactly the path to climate-neutral production with digitization can look for the overall system of industry and the energy sector.
With the roadmap "Vision: 2045 - towards climate-neutral production with digitization", ZD.B offers topic platforms Digital Production & Engineering and Digitalization in Energy together with the Technology and Innovation Management of Bayern Innovativ to develop an overview of how the road to climate-neutral production with digitization could look in 2045. The roadmap was developed on the basis of several workshops and interviews with experts and is divided into three parts, "Drivers and Trends," "Application Fields" and "Framework Conditions." The three areas illustrate which factors have an impact on the realization of climate-neutral production with digitization, which digital applications can be used for this purpose, and which framework conditions should be created to enable climate neutrality with digitization by 2045.

For example, the roadmap provides manufacturing companies, players in the energy industry, associations and politicians with an overview of external factors that can have a positive or negative impact on the individual path to climate-neutral production and the key role played by digitization in this. In addition, manufacturing companies and players in the energy industry will find digital applications in the roadmap for the entire product life cycle, from engineering to recycling and at all levels of the overall system, from the individual machine, through production processes and sites, to industrial parks. Finally, the roadmap offers companies, research institutions, associations and politicians an overview of the fields of action that should be addressed in order to be able to realize climate-neutral production with digitalization.
