When innovations rethink women's health - one of our new partners Cyscover®

05.05.2025

Bladder infections are one of the most common health complaints in women. In up to 90% of cases, they are caused by the body's own intestinal bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli for short), which can easily be carried into the urethra during sexual intercourse. Despite the widespread nature of this problem, there is still a lack of effective preventative solutions that directly address the cause.

One of our new partners, Cyscover®, has taken on this problem and offers a completely new approach worldwide: the product serves as temporary skin protection in the intimate area that physically prevents the transfer of bacteria during sexual intercourse - and is easy, effective and non-invasive to use.

Preventive barrier instead of symptomatic treatment

The innovation lies in its simplicity: instead of immune system boosters, antibiotics or systemic food supplements, Cyscover® does not require any pharmacological active ingredients. "Cyscover® works as a microbiome cover. It is applied as a wafer-thin, highly flexible cover to the skin around the perineum and anus. By covering the skin area together with its natural skin microbiome, underlying bacteria, including E. coli, are prevented from penetrating to the urethra," explains inventor and founder Selina Jakumeit. After sexual intercourse, the wafer-thin protective film is removed easily, without leaving any residue and without tugging.

From the idea to the marketable product

Selina Jakumeit has been working on the development and market readiness of the product since 2020. She is supported by experts from the fields of urology, chemistry, patents and production. It is particularly noteworthy that Cyscover® is entirely self-financed.

International recognition

The potential of Cyscover® did not go unnoticed internationally. In February 2024, Selina Jakumeit was invited to Tokyo to present her invention to an international audience at the world's largest Femtech trade fair - with a great response from the trade press and industry. Cyscover® was honored with the Innovation Award for Excellence in Business to Consumer Medical & Health in 2024, received "Gold" of the German Design Awards for "Excellent Product Design" in the Medical, Rehabilitation and Health Care category in 2025 and was highlighted by the German Patent and Trademark Office as a positive example for female inventors.

License model and market strategy

The market launch has a two-pronged approach: Firstly, there will be pilot sales in the company's own online store in German-speaking countries, and secondly, the invention will be distributed by national and international license partners. Both integration into existing product lines of established manufacturers and positioning as an independent brand in pharmacies or online retail are conceivable.

Jakumeit emphasizes: "Cyscover® is scalable, adaptable and can be integrated into existing sales structures. It is a product that was developed to provide a solution - with a clear focus on suitability for everyday use and global demand."

Innovation in the field of tension between bureaucracy and practice

A key topic for Jakumeit, from idea to market maturity, was the culture of innovation in Germany. "The regulatory framework in the healthcare sector is essential - but in its current form it often inhibits innovation. Individual companies in particular are massively slowed down by bureaucracy and analog processes," says Jakumeit.

She positively emphasizes the role of Bayern Innovativ: "This is where I experienced for the first time how innovation funding really works."

A small solution with a large reach

Cyscover® hits a nerve in healthcare - especially in women's health, which is often neglected. It combines scientifically sound prevention with intuitive application, is internationally compatible and addresses a broad, previously inadequately treated problem area.

"Our aim is clear: not to combat symptoms, but to understand correlations in order to avoid causes - with a product that can be easily integrated into everyday life and opens up new paths in health."
