Alliance for sustainable medical technology
15.12.2023
The healthcare sector is responsible for 5.2% of Germany's CO 2 emissions. Over 70% of this comes from the supply chain, including the manufacture, production and logistics of medical products. At the same time, the mountains of waste generated by the healthcare system are enormous; it is the fifth largest producer of waste in Germany.
In spring 2023, BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg, BIOVOX Connect and Bayern Innovativ's innovation network Forum MedTech Pharma came together to form the Alliance for Sustainable Medical Technology and signed a memorandum of understanding. In view of the environmental and climate-related challenges, we want to jointly support the sustainable development of the healthcare sector, join forces to coordinate activities and initiate new ones.
The aim is to raise awareness among stakeholders along the value chain of medical technology and medical devices for the sustainable development of the healthcare sector, e.g. for the implementation of a circular economy including suitable business models, resource efficiency or CO2 reduction.
Every first Friday of the month, the partners organize an online event on topics related to more sustainable medical technology with input and discussion. If you would like to be informed about the next event, please subscribe to our newsletter.
For further exchange with the other participants, become a member of the sustainability working group on the BMBF portal Medtec Online . Registration is free of charge.
