The future of care 2.0 - innovation and digitalization in the care sector
The care sector in Germany is undergoing radical change: the increasing shortage of skilled workers, advancing digitalization and demographic change are presenting the sector with new challenges. Innovative solutions and technologies are needed to relieve the burden on caregivers and make the stay as pleasant as possible for those receiving care. The "Future of Care 2.0" cluster aims to provide support and remedy this situation.

Rethinking care: starting signal for the second phase
The starting signal for the second phase of the Future of Care 2.0 cluster was given in September 2024. The Future of Care research cluster was founded in 2017 as a nationwide initiative to modernize the care sector through innovative technologies. The initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and comprises a network consisting of the Care Innovation Center (PIZ) in Oldenburg and four Care Practice Centers (PPZ) in Nuremberg, Freiburg, Berlin and Hanover. The focus is on establishing a national transfer and innovation hub for care technology, which is intended to pave the way for the sustainable digitalization and further development of care. A central component of the Future of Care 2.0 cluster is the buddy concept, which promotes digitalization in healthcare with the help of partnerships and support for facilities. The buddy concept is part of a comprehensive overall concept that is being pursued as part of the second funding period of the Future of Care 2.0 cluster.

Partnerships for digital progress in care
The Buddy concept aims to support eight selected healthcare facilities in their digitalization process. These facilities are supported through close cooperation with the cluster in order to benefit from the knowledge gained and innovative technologies. The practice partners are selected under the direction of the Hannover Care Practice Center, together with all cluster participants.

Innovative ideas as the key
The aim behind this concept is to enable new practice partners to implement technologies by further developing innovative care technologies and transferring them into practice in order to meet the increasing number of people in need of care. The aim of this concept is to strengthen close cooperation between research and practice in order to improve care through the targeted use of technologies. Gesundheit bei Bayern Innovativ GmbH has been a consortium partner since 2017 and supports the Care Practice Center in networking stakeholders from business and science, among other things.
