Interreg project: Cool*Alps - TBA goes Green Deal

Project description

Climate scenarios predict a significant increase in heat waves and extreme weather events. In the Alpine region in particular, more and more hot days are being recorded, leading to a significant increase in building cooling energy requirements. At the same time, the expansion of renewable energy brings with it new challenges in terms of energy supply security due to the volatility of production and increases the need for storage options.

Currently, buildings are increasingly being equipped with air conditioning split units to prevent overheating in summer, which further exacerbate the microclimatic problem of the surrounding area with their waste heat.

"Cool Alps" aims to improve adaptability to climate change and energy security in the Alpine region by supporting the spread of innovative thermally activated buildings. They enable CO2-free heating and cooling with one system and make settlements more flexible and resilient to extreme heat periods.

Planned project content

  • Planning guidelines for thermal component activation in alpine areas
  • Proposal paper for funding projects with component activation and improving the legal framework conditions
  • Online expert pool for planners, architects, construction companies and energy planners
  • Online innovation map with example buildings throughout the Alpine region

with the aim of sensitizing and expanding the skills and knowledge exchange of building owners, planners and political decision-makers.

Latest news

The already existing cross-border innovation map with component-activated buildings is currently being expanded. In the associated network of experts lists architects, planners and companies with expertise in thermal building component activation.
