The serial refurbishment of existing buildings is becoming increasingly important in Germany. With 58 completed, 26 ongoing and 175 planned projects, the potential of this method is evident.

Wood in particular has proven to be an ideal building material, as a new practical guide shows.

Advantages of wood

Wood is flexible, lightweight and sustainable. It is perfect for prefabricated components and extensions. It is also a renewable raw material with excellent insulating properties and can be reused at the end of a building's service life.

The guide "Serial refurbishment - modernization with prefabricated elements in timber panel construction" offers a practical introduction to the planning and execution process.

Efficient planning and implementation

Projects begin with a 3D laser scan of the building, from which a precise BIM model is created. Building technology and photovoltaic systems can already be integrated into the modules in the workshop. The guide offers numerous practical tips and planning examples

Cost-effective and time-saving

From the beginning of 2023, the Federal Subsidy for Efficient Buildings (BEG) will cover 15 percent of the renovation costs. The costs are comparable to conventional refurbishments, but the implementation time is significantly shorter. A sample calculation in the guide illustrates the cost efficiency:

Sample building: five storeys, 1,000 m² external wall area, 220 m² roof area.
Costs: approx. 795 euros/m² for the exterior wall, approx. 289 euros/m² for roof renovation and extension.

The guide offers valuable support for the efficient and sustainable implementation of serial renovation projects.
