The "Gas Exporting Countries Forum" has published figures on the development of the gas market. According to it, global energy demand will increase by 22 percent by 2050

In the long term increasing energy demand, the GECF sees the share of natural gas in 2050 at 23 to 26 percent, the natural gas supply will increase by 36 percent. Another prediction in the "Global Gas Outlook": liquefied natural gas will play an increasingly important role. As early as 2026, LNG capacity is projected to surpass that of pipeline trade.

Mohamed Hamel, secretary general of the GECF, stressed in a statement from the association that all energy sources and technologies will be needed to meet the world's growing energy needs while improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

"The uncertainties have never been so great and the challenges so profound. What is clearer and more critical, however, is the energy trilemma: how to ensure a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy system in the short to long term. What steps should be taken to ensure that energy is available for socioeconomic development while protecting the environment?"

The Outlook seeks to answer these pressing questions by examining global and regional growth prospects, energy demand and supply, natural gas trade and investment, policy implications, technological developments, and various other drivers.

In addition, two newly developed alternative energy scenarios address ending energy poverty and fostering economic growth in Africa, as well as possible pathways for accelerating global decarbonization.

The Global Gas Outlook can be downloaded from the GECF's online site.
