The best conditions for The Smarter E trade fair, which begins on June 19: The solar industry is predicting double-digit percentage growth rates this year
Good news for exhibitors and visitors at The Smarter E trade fair, which takes place from June 19 to 21: The industry association BSW Solar predicts in a press release that the German photovoltaic boom on homes will spread to company roofs and electricity storage systems. The figures also continue to point to growth worldwide.
In detail, according to BSW Solar, newly installed PV capacity increased by 35% to more than 5,000 MW in the first four months of 2024 on an annualized basis. The trade association speaks of a doubling of the domestic solar market last year. According to its forecast, growth will level off this year, but will still be in the double-digit percentage range.
BSW Managing Director Carsten Körnig explained: "Following a veritable solar boom in Germany's owner-occupied housing estates, commercial roofs and low-yield open spaces are now increasingly being electrified with the help of solar technology." The federal government's decision to reduce bureaucracy and the Solar Package I have now also made it easier for the housing industry to install larger solar systems.
In the year to April, 81 percent more PV capacity was installed on German commercial roofs on an annualized basis. At the same time, growth in ground-mounted systems was 74 percent.
Similar worldwide
According to the 2023 figures published by the umbrella organization Solar Power Europe on June 18 in its annual Global Market Outlook for Solar Power 2024-2028, it also looks like sunny times worldwide. According to the report, PV installations increased globally by 87% to 447,000 MW compared to 2022.
80% of the expansion took place in the ten largest national markets. China alone accounted for 57%, which is also where most PV modules come from. For the current year, the European umbrella organization believes that a global installed capacity of 2,000,000 MW is likely. This is double the figure at the end of 2022, compared to 1,600,000 MW at the end of 2023.
Multiple trade fairs under one roof
Smarter E Europe is the umbrella for the Intersolar, EM-Power Europe, EES and Power 2 Drive trade fairs. Messe München will open its doors on June 19. 115,000 visitors are expected.
