The commissioning of already installed PV systems is repeatedly delayed due to delays in the installation of smart meters. Wegatech and "Spot my Energy" want to change this.
Wegatech Greenergy GmbH is a provider of PV systems from Munich. Together with Spot my Energy GmbH, a provider of smart meters from Cologne, it wants to accelerate the installation of smart meters. As part of the cooperation agreement signed on March 19, Wegatech intends to install Spot my Energy's smart meters directly at the customer's premises when the PV systems are installed. The aim is for the systems to become productive immediately and without any delays caused by bureaucratic processes.
"The availability of smart meters has been a bottleneck in the acceptance of installation projects," says Andreas Durth, explaining the underlying problem that the partners want to solve through their collaboration. The CEO of Wegatech says: "In the photovoltaic sector alone, we expect around 1,500 projects to be commissioned this year. Thanks to streamlined and customer-oriented processes, our customers can now start feeding in and billing self-produced solar power earlier."
Jochen Schwill, Managing Director of Spot my Energy, adds: "Especially when installing new systems, the meter cabinet has to be tackled anyway and it makes sense to install a smart meter in the same step." The installation companies would be enabled to help their customers get their own solar power more quickly.
Spot my Energy takes on the function of a metering point operator. According to Spot my Energy, the costs for using the smart meters are comparable to those of the metering point operators with basic responsibility.
The company was founded in August 2023 by Jochen Schwill, who also set up Next Kraftwerk. Spot My Energy received €1.55 million in a financing round back in September 2023. As a metering point operator for smart metering systems, the company handles metering, optimization and electricity trading. Dynamic electricity tariffs and intelligent control of electricity consumption give electricity customers the opportunity to save electricity. The aim is to increase planning reliability for system and grid operators.
