Two gas turbines are to be supplied by Siemens Energy to the Frankfurt-based utility. The two turbines are also to be able to run on hydrogen in the future.

Mainova AG's coal phase-out planned for 2026 has reached two important milestones, according to the company. On the one hand, the responsible Darmstadt Regional Council granted the first partial permit for the construction of the new combined heat and power plant West. Second, Siemens Energy has been selected as the supplier of the central plant components.

The most important elements of the power plant equipment: two gas turbines from Siemens Energy with heat recovery steam generators that produce heat and electricity simultaneously. Each of these two units has an electrical output of 62 MW and a thermal output of 105 MW. According to the company, the special feature here is that the technology, which is being operated on natural gas on a transitional basis, is already hydrogen-ready. It is thus prepared for the planned future use of the fuel of the future.

Furthermore, Siemens Energy is supplying electrical and control technology, water-steam cycle, gas and various ancillary systems. Mainova is investing more than 300 million euros in the conversion of its generation heart.
