Prof. Dr. Brautsch receives Bavarian State Medal for Special Services

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch of the OTH Amberg-Weiden was awarded the Bavarian State Medal for Special Services to the Bavarian Economy at a ceremonial act of state in the Ludwig Erhard Festival Hall of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs in Munich.

The award is presented to outstanding personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the Bavarian economy with exceptional commitment. In his laudatory speech, Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, emphasized that Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch has rendered outstanding services in particular through the successful transfer of research results to practical applications and his expertise in energy efficiency, combined heat, power and cooling and sector coupling. He has always focused on the concrete benefits for the user and the technical and economic feasibility of the solutions developed.

In addition, he contributes his expertise as an honorary member of the supervisory board of several municipal utility companies. Since 1998, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch has been researching and working at the OTH Amberg-Weiden and is, among other things, scientific director of the Competence Center for Combined Heat and Power. The direct applicability of research results and technology transfer are particularly important to him. In 2006, he founded the BHKW Forschungs- und Entwicklungs-GbR, which was later transferred to the Institute for Energy Technology (IfE) as an affiliated institute of the university.

The institute advises municipalities and companies on energy issues and is thus an important interface between scientific research and technology transfer. In his acceptance speech, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch emphasized the importance of the transfer concept at the university and stressed that the research projects have been set up pragmatically together with industrial companies from the very beginning. This close cooperation makes it possible for research results to flow directly into the companies. He also emphasized that technology transfer is supported in Bavaria due to the political and funding conditions. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Brautsch has already received several awards for his diverse research and consulting activities, including the Bavarian Energy Award.

He is also a visiting professor at Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, China. The State Medal for Special Services to the Bavarian Economy is the highest, personal award that the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs can bestow. Every year, around 20 personalities are honored who have rendered special services to the Bavarian economy.
