Bayernwerk Netz GmbH plans to build a new underground cable line in the Upper Bavarian district of Dachau. It is to help with the distribution of photovoltaic power.

Between the newly built Kleinschwabhausen substation and the Oberbachern substation, the construction of an approximately 18-kilometer-long 110-kilovolt line is planned. According to Bayernwerk, the project will cost around 30 million euros. The documents for planning approval are to be submitted to the government of Upper Bavaria at the end of March. The grid operator expects the line to be commissioned in 2025.

"With the new cable line and the Kleinschwabhausen substation, we are making it possible for regionally generated solar power to be distributed and consumed across the region," project manager Markus Schmitt said in a Bayernwerk statement. "We want to advance the energy transition in Bavaria. One component of this is to expand the distribution network in Upper Bavaria." The region has seen a sharp increase in renewable energy generation capacity for years, especially from photovoltaic systems. The electricity generated locally each year already exceeds the amount needed by consumers there.
