In a joint declaration, the EU Commission, the European hydrogen industry, the scientific community and European regions commit to collaborate on research and development to accelerate the deployment of so-called hydrogen valleys. A hydrogen valley or "Hydrogen Valley" aims to promote the development and implementation of hydrogen projects along the entire value chain at the local or regional level.
In line with the EU Hydrogen Strategy and in line with the objectives of the REPowerEU Plan and the Green Deal Industrial Plan, the current 38 hydrogen valleys, five of which are located in Germany, combine hydrogen production, transport and a range of cutting-edge applications - from environmentally friendly mobility to industrial feedstocks. In doing so, they are creating fully functional and sustainable supply and demand clusters that are driving the use of renewable hydrogen and thus advancing the clean energy transition.
