The government of Central Franconia appointed the Forum for Climate Protection and Sustainable Development of the European Metropolitan Region Nuremberg and ENERGIEregion Nürnberg e.V. as "Supporters in Team Energiewende Bayern". The awards took place during the 46th meeting of the Forum on 21 June 2023 in Ansbach Castle.

The Forum for Climate Protection and Sustainable Development of the European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg is an association of representatives of local authorities, business, science and various institutions. "With its strong networks and currently 130 members, the Forum makes an important contribution to climate protection in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region and provides powerful support for the energy transition at the regional level," says Thomas Thumann, political spokesman for the Forum and Lord Mayor of the City of Neumarkt. In the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region, 23 counties and eleven independent cities work together in partnership. The forum has formed eight initiative circles that deal with various key topics: Exchange/Networking of Climate Protection Managers, Renewable Energies, Sustainable Heating Systems, Sector Coupling, Housing and Energy, Sustainable Real Estate, Fair Metropolitan Region, and Municipal Development Cooperation Africa. The managing director of the Forum and at the same time the officer for environment and health of the city of Nuremberg, Britta Walthelm, emphasizes: "We are very pleased about the award, because we have been working intensively in climate protection for years and have built up very good networking structures. As a supporter in Team Energiewende Bayern, we are adding another important node to our network."

The ENERGIEregion Nürnberg e.V. has been working since 2001 to advance the energy turnaround in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region through cooperation between companies, scientific institutions, and municipalities and associations, and to promote energy and resource efficiency in the northern Bavarian region. In doing so, the entire energy value chain is approached, from renewable energy generation, storage and transport, to application in the sectors of industry, buildings and mobility. Together with more than 80 members, knowledge and technology transfer is organized, projects are initiated and visibility is created for regional energy competencies and role models of the energy transition. Nuremberg's Economics and Science Officer Dr. Michael Fraas, who is also Chairman of ENERGIEregion Nürnberg e.V., says: "ENERGIEregion Nürnberg e.V. is a high-profile shaper of the energy transition in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. The network brings together business, science, politics, multipliers, municipalities and regional authorities. In this way, lighthouse projects, cooperations and funding projects are created that advance the decarbonization of the metropolitan region." Dr. Jens Hauch, managing director of ENERGIEregion, added: "We want to fulfill our role as a supporter in particular also within the framework of the BMBF project 'Klimapakt2030plus' by activating all stakeholders concerned to accelerate the energy transition in the areas of energy supply and building refurbishment."

Counties, municipalities, companies, educational and research institutions as well as associations that make an active contribution to the energy transition can be included in the group of "Supporters in Team Energiewende Bayern" created by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. The government of Middle Franconia has been a partner in "Team Energiewende Bayern" from the very beginning. Together with the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, the government provides all municipalities, citizens and companies with various subsidies in the energy sector.

"Many thanks to our supporters who, as role models, pass on their experience and network to take advantage of synergies," emphasizes Regierungspräsidentin Dr. Engelhardt-Blum.
