LEW-Verteilnetz GmbH is digitizing its local network stations to get more data.

Totally, there are about 10,000 local network stations at LEW Verteilnetz. As the company now communicates, 100 are to be equipped with the new technology annually. Against the backdrop of the energy crisis, measuring devices had already been installed at short notice in representatively selected plants last year and random measurements were carried out.

Now a large-scale rollout is to take place. The basis is the "Inno.Live technology", a smart city solution from LEW for municipalities. It uses Lora radio technology, an energy-saving radio system with a long range. At the end, the data is transmitted via the network to a central database where it is processed. Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is also involved in the evaluation.

LEW has developed the Inno-Live technology for numerous applications, such as level or moisture measurements or temperature monitoring. With "Inno.grid.box", a solution is now available that records and transmits measurement data from the power grid - such as voltage and current strength.

The project also defined threshold values for grid utilization that result in automatic messages to standby personnel. So far, however, these limits have not been reached in any of the upgraded local substations, according to LEW data. However, it was found that significantly more power needs to be made available at low temperatures.

LEW Verteilnetz GmbH is a subsidiary of Lechwerke AG and operates in Bavarian Swabia and parts of Upper Bavaria.
