The statistics show global primary energy consumption from 1980 to 2022, according to figures from BP and the Energy Institute. Only commercially traded fuels were included as primary energy. It therefore does not include fuels such as wood, peat and animal waste, which are important in some countries but for which there is no reliable statistical information on consumption. The global consumption of primary energy amounted to about 604.04 exajoules in 2022.
