8 percent less gas have consumed household customers and small to medium-sized commercial customers since September than otherwise at the same temperatures. This shows a calculation of the BDEW.
The analysis of the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) compares the actual consumption values of gas customers with a standard load profile (SLP) - that is, an annual gas consumption of up to 1.5 million kWh - with a reference value. This indicates how much gas the SLP customers would have consumed under the same temperature conditions if they had behaved as they have in the past five years - i.e., without the effects of the current price and supply situation.
The SLP customers include, in particular, household customers and small to medium-sized commercial customers. These could save 8 percent in temperature-adjusted terms through their changed consumption behavior alone. Caused by the mild temperatures, the gas consumption sank altogether around 18 per cent.
Kerstin Andreae explained to this: "The private households and small trade customers heat naturally with colder temperatures, but less". The BDEW chief executive sees the change in consumption behavior as a "good sign". It should motivate everyone to "save energy wherever possible" in the coming months. In nearly each household there are still possibilities for it, so Andreae further. It is important that everyone does what is feasible for him in everyday life.
The BDEW wants to help consumers save energy. On a specially set up website , the association has compiled 20 energy-saving tips with short explanatory videos, texts, social media posts and background information on the energy market.
