Energy - digital - networked

"Digitization is simply the prerequisite for the energy transition to succeed at all," said Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, at the C/sells Bavaria Ministerial Dialogue in April 2019.

Energy Congress
Die Energieversorgung wandelt sich zusehends zu einem dynamischen System mehrerer kleiner Erzeuger.

What is the current state of digitization in the energy sector ? More than 500 participants dealt with exactly this question in various presentations and three expert forums at the 5th Regensburg Energy Congress on March 3 and 4, 2021.

  • What has already been implemented?
  • What challenges are still ahead?
  • What funding opportunities exist?
  • From which best practice examples can we learn?

These and other questions were discussed with renowned experts from politics, science and industry.

The organizers of the 5th Regensburg Energy Congress

were the Regensburg Center of Energy and Resources (RCER) of the OTH Regensburg with support:

"A major goal of the IHK Regensburg for Upper Palatinate / Kelheim is to advance the Energiewende in the sense of its member companies. One cornerstone for this is the digitalization in the energy sector , another cornerstone is innovative energy technology solutions. We as the IHK are pleased to promote such topics together with strong partners - for example, within the framework of events such as the Regensburg Energy Congress," says Dr. Jürgen Helmes, Chief Executive Officer of the IHK Regensburg for Upper Palatinate / Kelheim on the participation in the Congress.

At the OTH Regensburg, the multi-layered issues that the the field of energy can be considered holistically in the interdisciplinary "Regensburg Center of Energy and Re-sources" - technical, economic and social challenges are illuminated and dealt with as well as the acceptance of technical innovations and their consequences. In order to communicate the findings from this interdisciplinary work, OTH Regensburg has been organizing the Regensburg Energy Congresses together with the Regensburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Upper Palatinate / Kelheim since 2013. In 2021, Bayern Innovativ was also involved as a partner in the organization for the first time.

It was a great asset that Bayern Innovativ, with its Center Digitalization.Bayern, got involved as the third co-organizer for this year's congress theme 'Digitalization in the Energy Sector'. This support is proof of the long-standing, successful and cooperative exchange with Bayern Innovativ.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Baier Präsident der OTH Regensburg

The energy supply is visibly changing into a dynamic system of several small producers. The supply is becoming more complex. Potentials of all consumers and generators are to be exploited and flexibilities used. Digital technology and smart grids are to control and monitor this in order to efficiently develop the grid infrastructure. New concepts and solutions are emerging.

Even though the event could only take place digitally this time, there were many opportunities for questions and discussions as well as a lively exchange in the expert forums. For more information, click here!
