Germany's electricity price of 20 cents per kWh in 2022 is competitive in a European comparison, but significantly higher than in the US and China. The introduction of a capped industrial electricity price is being discussed, offers short-term relief, but requires specific conditions and testing of applicability. Funding from the Climate and Transformation Fund may not be sufficient. Alternative relief options such as electricity price offsets, tax cuts, and investments in energy-efficient technologies are discussed. Companies should develop long-term strategies to remain competitive in a changing energy market, e.g. through climate protection contracts.
