The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWK) wants to promote research in electromobility with 80 million euros. It is now calling for project outlines to be submitted.
The Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWK), Michael Kellner, explained, "With the funding competition 'Electromobility 2025', the BMWK is promoting two major showcase projects with strategic importance for electromobility." European solutions are needed for both bidirectionality and trans-European long-distance and heavy-duty transport, he said. A total of 80 million euros is available.
In a first demonstration project, the development and real-world implementation of a cross-sector and cross-manufacturer standard for an "EU Fleet Power Plant 2025" will be put out to tender, he said. In addition to the stationary charging infrastructure for e-trucks, the second showcase project is dedicated to the development and test operation of a likewise cross-manufacturer standard for truck battery swap systems for "recharging while driving."
Smaller projects for bidirectional charging
In addition to these two research and development (R&D) priorities, smaller projects covering the topics of optimized production processes and cost reduction for electromobility, environmental compatibility and circular economy, modularity, and "plug-and-play" solutions as cross-manufacturer answers for bidirectional charging are the subject of this funding call.
The funding call will be published in the Federal Gazette on June 29. Companies, local authorities, public administration institutions, universities or other research institutions can submit project outlines by September 30, 2023. The BMWK particularly welcomes cross-sector and cross-manufacturer collaborations within the framework of the "Showcase Projects 2025" and the association of European R&D partners. Michael Kellner added: "We need simple and reliable solutions that can be put into operation by any user with minimum effort."
