The Bavarian funding program for hydrogen refueling stations is relaunching at the IAA Mobility.

The revised version is valid from September 07. Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger explains that the program solves the hydrogen hen-egg problem by promoting refueling stations, which increases the demand for hydrogen vehicles. So far, 19 refueling stations have been funded in Bavaria, including the one in Hofolding, which opens this week, and another in Passau on Sept. 20.

The program supports public refueling stations for commercial vehicles and buses with up to 90 percent of investment costs and in-house refueling stations with 40 percent. It was launched in October 2020 and revised to meet new state aid law baselines. Electrolysers now receive higher grants through the Bavarian Electrolysis Funding Program, and funding for hydrogen vehicles is no longer included due to better federal programs.

The new funding call under the guidelines begins Sept. 18 and runs through Nov. 13, 2023. Interested parties should contact the project sponsor at Bayern Innovativ GmbH at an early stage.
