From now on, cities with a population of 50,000 or more can apply for the European Accessibility Award. The "Access City Award" honors cities that have significantly improved accessibility for people with disabilities and are planning further steps to remove barriers. The winning city will receive prize money of 150,000 euros, while the runners-up will receive 120,000 euros and 80,000 euros respectively. In Germany, Berlin, Bremerhaven, Dresden, Cologne and Wiesbaden have already received this award.
The competition is organized by the European Commission in cooperation with the European Disability Forum. The winners of this year's award will be announced at a conference to mark the European Day of People with Disabilities on November 25.
The deadline for applications is September 8, 2022 .
