Germany wants to become technologically sovereign in quantum technologies together with its European partners. To achieve this, it is essential to be able to produce its own quantum technology systems and their key components. Germany cannot master these immense challenges on its own. It is therefore important to cooperate with value partners on an equal footing - both within and outside Europe. The BMBF promotes international cooperation in quantum technologies as part of the "Quantum Systems Research Programme".
Funding is provided for application-oriented, international collaborative projects in quantum technologies, provided that faster or more effective progress can be expected compared to purely national projects.
Research topics can be, for example:
- new methods for quantum error correction
- chip integration of optical components, e.g. for photonic quantum computing
- . for photonic quantum computing
- Platforms and materials for quantum simulation
- Interfaces between quantum computers and communication systems
- New architectures and programming paradigms for quantum computation, including hybrid approaches
- Micro and nano quantum sensors
This list is not exhaustive, but should be understood as exemplary.
