Digitization and sustainability

20.04.2023

The award-winning municipalities of the "Kommunal? Digital!" program of the Bavarian State Ministry for Digital Affairs entered the implementation phase at the beginning of 2022. The program includes innovative projects, such as a lending exchange for special equipment or even a municipal climate information, warning and alarm system.

The Lower Bavarian municipality of Markt Ergoldsbach is currently working on KliWAS, the municipal climate information, warning and alarm system (IWA). Small-scale climate extremes, such as heavy rain, drought and heat are to be detected at an early stage through the local measurement of climate data with the help of an IoT sensor system. The use of artificial intelligence is also important here. The local weather data collected specifically for the project will be analyzed with the help of AI. As soon as the measured values have exceeded a critical value, the citizens and the emergency services are informed by app, text message and phone call.

The ERWin project of the ILE National Park Communities/Lower Bavaria stands for "Efficient Resource-Saving Winter Service". Especially in the rural communities of the low mountain ranges of the Bavarian Forest, the winter service faces great challenges. In order to optimally adjust the clearing activities to this, the intelligent winter system is supported by data from the municipalities, sensor technology and, if necessary, expandable data sources. In addition, the system can be further improved by data donations from citizens.

As part of the "Rent a Bauhof" project of the municipality of Luhe-Wildenau, a lending exchange for municipal machines is being developed. The extensive activities of the building yard often require a wide variety of machines. Some of these are special machines, which have high purchase prices and are only used on a few days a year. This is where the project comes in. Municipalities are to make their machines and vehicles available to other municipalities for loan via an online platform. The restriction to purely digital operation brings further advantages. This saves paper and the utilization of machines can be optimized.

The municipalities mentioned have been able to present the current status of their projects live to Bavarian Digital Minister Judith Gerlach, MdL, in recent weeks. The new progress report of all projects will be published soon.
