Disruptions in the semiconductor supply chain quickly detect and fix - that is the goal of the semiconductor warning system. The warning system is a new pilot project of the EU Commission. It is intended to draw attention to critical disruptions and collect information needed for an accurate risk assessment and a rapid response to possible crisis situations by the European Semiconductor Expert Group.
European Chip Law
The semiconductor warning system will be included in the third pillar of the European Chip Law. To this end, the European Parliament and the EU member states in the Council had recently reached a political agreement. It aims to strengthen Europe's competitiveness, security of supply and resilience in semiconductor technologies and applications. Among other things, the proposal establishes a coordination mechanism between member states and the EU Commission to strengthen cooperation with and among member states, monitor semiconductor supply, anticipate bottlenecks, and trigger a crisis phase if necessary.
European Semiconductor Expert Group
The recommendation on the EU chip law established a European Semiconductor Expert Group (ESEG) to serve as a platform for coordination among member states and to advise and assist the Commission in implementing the regulation. Once the proposal is implemented, the ESEG will be replaced by the European Semiconductor Committee, composed of representatives of the Member States and chaired by the Commission. The platform is open to all public procurement stakeholders in Europe, such as public authorities, industry, SMEs and academia. Its purpose is to share best practices and challenges.
