Call for funding System function of the quantum computer

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has published a call for funding with the following objective:

The knowledge of all relevant properties of concrete quantum computer setups is to be deepened to such an extent that precise specifications in the sense of complete design plans for a quantum computer are possible, which reliably reaches the threshold of quantum advantage for practical applications. The determined system design should then be able to serve as the basis for a roadmap for technical implementation and show a detailed and scalable development line, which in particular also fully includes the peripherals of the processor. This does not exclude the possibility that fundamental problems will also have to be solved in the course of the development to be carried out.

Directly related to this goal is the endeavor to support research cooperation between science and industry along the various issues from the field of application-oriented quantum computing, especially for the definition of correspondingly relevant benchmarks, in order to achieve an effective transfer of research results into innovative services and products in the medium and long term. This technology transfer should help to maintain the innovative strength of quantum technologies in Germany in international competition and to develop the application potential of quantum computers for the economy and society.
