Buildings as a building block of the energy future

From research and development to demonstration and innovation

The two pillars for the success of the energy transition are energy efficiency and increasing the share of renewable energies. A very high proportion of energy is used for heating and cooling buildings. In this context, Thermal Building Activation (TBA) is a technology that can contribute significantly and affordably to achieving the goals.

Renewable energy sources are volatile, so it is particularly important to create storage options. In widespread use, TBA enables CO2-free heating and cooling and, in the form of many decentralized storage facilities, can relieve the load on the grid by making buildings with their massive components part of the energy networks. How these properties can be further optimized and how TBA can be integrated, for example, into district heating networks or microgrids, or applied in refurbishment projects, are questions to be clarified in the R&I project.

Project Objective:

To help the cost-effective key technology TBA to become widely known and ultimately to achieve a breakthrough, to make showcase projects visible, to identify future potential for the economy as well as normative or legal barriers, or to develop solutions for these. To develop solutions for these.

In essence, the following project contents are planned:

  • Border-crossing survey, investigation and presentation of best practices, what the applied technologies, the economic viability and the potential contribution to political objectives (climate goals) anlangt.
  • Border-crossing survey of legal or normative framework conditions for optimal use and development of storage technologies.
  • Boundary-crossing survey of organizational requirements for control and energy distribution
  • Showing possible potentials of energy absorption and release and contribution to buffering peaks also in the context of building mobility
  • Development of prototypes for individual regions as a preliminary stage for pilot projects
  • Boundary-crossing network foundation "IG-Bauteilaktivierung"
