The European research project EASY-RES conducted research until December 2021 into how secure power grids can be ensured even with a very high proportion of renewable energies by means of novel system services. During the 46-month project period, the research team developed a novel prototype and tested it in laboratories. This prototype can provide numerous grid services at once that were previously only provided by system generators. Its name is also derived from its performance - Unified Virtual Synchronous Generator (UVSG).
EASY-RES Key Results
The EASY-RES project was coordinated by Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. In total, five universities and six industrial partners have been working on a more sustainable power grid for Europe. Of the total 11 partners, 5 of them are from Bavaria: Stadtwerk Haßfurt, Stadtwerke Landau a.d.Isar, FENECON, University of Passau and Bayern Innovativ .

The hard-working research team has published over 40 scientific papers in the project lifetime, published by renowned international journals and conferences.
The team has also defined 16 outstanding methods and technologies that have a particularly high potential for further development and exploitation. All 16 key results are published in the European Commission's Horizon Results Platform.
From September 20-24, 2021, the project team hosted a virtual summer school. The course content included 22 hours and was presented by the academic project partners and FENECON.
Overall, the project sets the course for the further expansion of renewable energy , necessary to achieve international climate goals and to drive the ongoing decarbonization of the economy. EASY-RES strengthens the position of prosumers, who can feed their share of renewable energy into a future smart grid and contribute to further decentralization of energy supply .
