A recent home storage market survey by "C.A.R.M.E.N." (Central Agricultural Commodity Marketing and Energy Network) takes over 400 systems from 27 manufacturers under the microscope.

Just in view of the turbulence in the electricity market, more and more consumers have the need to increase their degree of self-sufficiency with a photovoltaic system on the roof and a battery storage. According to Carmen's findings, the majority of photovoltaic systems in the private sector are now sold with a home storage system. In addition to hedging against rising electricity prices, the motivation for purchasing a home storage system lies primarily in the desire to optimize self-consumption, to do something for climate protection and to have charging power available for one's own electric vehicle even when the PV system is not delivering.

The Carmen market overview has been available since 2014 with an annual update. The current version now published takes more than 400 systems from 27 manufacturers under the microscope. In addition to lithium-ion technology, sodium-nickel-chloride and saltwater batteries are also represented.

The survey found that the number of full cycles of lithium batteries in the period under review is 5,871 on average. However, a maximum of 20,000 cycles can be achieved. For the saltwater batteries, it is 5,000 cycles on average and maximum, while for the sodium nickel chloride batteries, 7,500 cycles on average and maximum.

The Market Overview Battery Storage 2022 , which also includes, for example, information on efficiency, storage capacity, charge and discharge performance, permissible ambient temperature and emergency power capability, is available for download on the Carmen Network website.
