Medical technology made in Bavaria

Bavaria is considered a top location for medical technology. Worldwide, annual sales of around 250 billion euros are generated here. Two-thirds of the medical technology products "Made in Bavaria" are destined for export. At the MT-CONNECT networking platform, which was launched in 2017, manufacturers, suppliers and service providers showcased their products and solutions for the healthcare market. The parallel international congress MedTech Summit presented a wide range of technology- and market-relevant topics.

Interview about MedTech Summit and medical technology trade fair MT-CONNECT

Bayern Innovativ Managing Director Dr. Rainer Seßner talking to NürnbergMesse Group CEO Dr. Roland Fleck and Dr. Thomas Feigl, board member at MedTech Pharma e.V about the MedTech Summit congress and the MT-CONNECT medical technology trade show.

Dr. Feigl, the MedTech Summit congress has established itself as a key event in Europe since 2008. The formerly accompanying exhibition is now to be transferred to the new medical technology exhibition MT-CONNECT - how did this come about?

Dr. Thomas Feigl: We have taken the positive developments of recent years - rising visitor numbers and a congress exhibition booked out early - as an opportunity to further expand the event concept. With NürnbergMesse as one of the world's leading exhibition companies, we have found the ideal partner to convert the former accompanying congress exhibition into an exhibition. And in addition to the congress and exhibition, further networking offers such as partnering will be provided.

Dr. Fleck, what makes NürnbergMesse the perfect home for the new duo of medical technology exhibition and congress?

Dr. Roland Fleck: There are a quartet of reasons in favor of the new duo. On the one hand, the MedTech Summit congress has been our guest at the exhibition center since its inception in 2008 and has established itself very well with over 1,000 participants and an accompanying foyer exhibition. On the other hand, our location in the center of the European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg alone means that we are very close to the heart of the German medical technology industry; the top cluster "Medical Valley" is at home here. In addition, NürnbergMesse has an excellent international network and is present with subsidiaries in China, North America, Brazil, Italy and India as well as with foreign representatives in currently 117 countries. And finally, Forum MedTech Pharma, as Europe's largest network of the healthcare industry, is the ideal partner for an international trade fair.

Which application and technology fields are the focal points of the new event format?

Dr. Thomas Feigl: For many years, the focal points of the MedTech Summit congress program have included the latest developments in medical technology, digital trends, mobile health as well as diagnostics and personalized medicine. We also focus on innovation management, regulation and strategic partnerships.

Dr. Roland Fleck: "At MT-CONNECT, visitors will encounter the major trends that are driving the industry. Digitalization and additive manufacturing processes are two such innovative trends. MT-CONNECT is all about exploring the future together and daring to look ahead. To this end, we are creating platforms such as the Innovation Market Place.

Networking is important for many participants. What networking offers will there be?

Dr. Thomas Feigl: As already mentioned, partnering will be offered in addition to the congress and trade fair. This matchmaking offer will enable B2B networking between all MedTech Summit participants and MT-CONNECT exhibitors and visitors. Participants, speakers and exhibitors benefit from directly connected premises of the trade fair as well as the congress and promote an exchange from suppliers to users. The combination of scientific and market-relevant lectures, a trade fair for medical technology and interactive formats thereby opens up a variety of possibilities for venretzung.

What is the attraction of a combination of trade fair and congress?

Dr. Roland Fleck: Especially for future topics, the combination of exhibition and congress is the ideal event form today, on which ncoh other highly exciting events of NürnbergMesse also rely; such as it-sa , one of the most important exhibitions for IT security worldwide or iSEneC, Integration of Sustainable Energy Conference. These events are not only about products, but also primarily about ideas that dare to take a step out of the world of research and into the market. Start-ups as well as established research groups will find the right partner for this first, so important step at MT-Connect.

How will medicine and the exhibition come together in the future?

Dr. Roland Fleck: Thematically, MT-CONNECT fits perfectly into the NürnbergMesse exhibition portfolio anyway. After all, the Exhibition Center Nuremberg is an established meeting place in the industry and regularly hosts top-class medical congresses, for example in the fields of ophthalmology, surgery, anesthesia or arthroscopy. In addition, the highly specialized trade fairs of NürnbergMesse have been addressing specific target groups from medical technology for a long time. For example, embedded world, which is about embedded computer systems - an important component for modern medical technology. Our goal is a medical technology trade fair with European appeal - and Bavaria as a MedTech location will benefit noticeably from such a trade fair.
